Gotta Love Sandwiches January 31, 2008

A couple weeks ago I was out shopping with one of my roomies and we had a discussion about putting sprouts in sandwiches. We didn’t end up buying any but this week when I came back to Lethbridge I was given a bag of the stuff, and today I decided to make a sandwich with them before they went bad. Was it ever good! Here’s what I did:

Toast 2 slices of bread (Dempster’s 12 Grain is what I like)

Spread prepared tuna on one slice of toast

Put on tomato and avocado slices

Cover with sprouts

Enjoy!

This sandwich definitely brought me joy today!

Oh those mittens January 30, 2008

With this cold weather still looming over our heads, I must say that my mittens bring me joy. Not many people know that mittens actually keep your hands much warmer than those five-fingered gloves. The reason for that is because mittens keep your fingers together which keeps them warmer than if they are apart and they have less surface area for the heat to be lost. Plus they come in so many materials and colours and they are just so cute!

Ok, I just had to post this! I was randomly searching the internet and decided to see if YC had finally put up their new info for this year….and guess what???? THEY DID!!!

My New Boots January 30, 2008

A story like this requires some background info. If you’ve been checking the weather lately then you know that it is super cold in southern Alberta. Here in Lethbridge the snow is coming down like crazy, the roads are icy and on Monday the temperature with the wind chill was -47!

I almost didn’t even make it here this week. I don’t have classes until Tuesday so I tend to leave Calgary on Monday, this weekend was a different story. There were warnings of a storm hitting Sunday evening so I was given the advice to leave early that day for Lethbridge (thanks mom). The snow started earlier than I thought and I soon realized that my 92 Mazda probably wouldn’t be the best bet for me to get there. I almost stayed in Calgary and skipped class for a week, but thank goodness for my good friend Whitney who drove me here and hopefully will drive me home on Friday.

Anyway, with the cold weather I decided that my Van skater shoes weren’t going to do it and I had my friend drive me to the mall. We looked at several stores, and I found them at Aldo on sale! I paid $85 for them when regular they cost $120.

They brought me so much joy today when walking the half hour to school this morning, then back for lunch, then back for school and coming home later this evening. My feet were so warm! I love them!

I haven’t eaten one of these in years, and today I just had to stop and buy myself a cinnamon bun from CINNZEO. I must say that they are still excellent, but that it didn’t taste quite like I remembered when I was little. That being said, I still enjoyed my cinnamon bun and it brought me great joy today.

Beach Volleyball January 26, 2008

Beach volleyball. I usually only get the chance to play it when I’m camping by the beach in B.C., but last night was a different story. Our youth group spent the hours between 9 and 12 in a church…playing beach volleyball. Yep, you heard right, the church shipped in two truck loads of sand into their gym. So I had the opportunity to feel sand between my toes and duck my head when the ball is coming for me. We had a lot of fun, even if I’m not the greatest volleyball player.

Mr. Bean’s Holiday January 25, 2008

Have you ever had one of those days that just seems miserable. I mean a day that you just don’t feel like yourself. You don’t know why but that day just sucks. Well that was today for me . . . until I went to my friends house to watch a certian movie with the title of Mr. Bean’s Holiday.

Oh my goodness, I couldn’t stop laughing. If you haven’t seen this movie it’s worth renting for sure! If you’ve seen other Mr. Bean episodes and enjoyed them than this movie is for you. Rowan Atkinson is at his Mr. Bean best. The premise of this movie is that he wins a video camera and then goes on vacation. His travels bring him across many different people that make his vacation a true adventure.

I love this movie! Check out this scene and go rent the movie to see the rest.

Going to Camp January 23, 2008

I spent this last weekend at Camp Okotoks with 50 - 60 junior and high school students. We had to sleep in the lodge because it was the only heated building so the girls monopolized the basement and the boys got the upstairs for sleeping.

We endured cold weather and no running water, and I had an excellent time! I think it was one of the best retreats that I have been on in a long time.

The theme was “The Price is Wrong” and we all got sweet t-shirts to remind us that money isn’t everything. We played gameshows like “Are you Smarter Than a Youth Leader?” and “Hypothalamus” and watched hours of the Planet Earth documentary series.

The best thing we did though, was the wide game Ring of Fire. The game consisted of two teams, each with their own burning fire pit on each side of the camp. The mission was to put out the other teams fire with snowballs . . . and flour. Yes, flour. Each team had a 10 lb. bag of all purpouse flour and styrofoam cups to put on the fire or to throw at your opponents. The game quickly turned into a full on flour war when I decided to betray my team to help a friend attack certian ruthless men (who shall remain nameless). By the end of the night my friend and I were covered with flour paste. We had flour in our eyes, nose and ears. I had breathed in so much it hurt to inhale, but I can still say that I had a great time and when I look at the pictures I just have to start laughing.

Today I just had to smile when I saw this video on my friends facebook page. I don’t know if you saw American Idol last week, but this Filipino man by the name of Renaldo Lapuz sang a song that he wrote on the show for all of America to see. It’s probably one of the funniest things I’ve seen in a long time so take a look at the video you can find on YouTube.

Well, I’ve decided to change up the way that I will be writing on my blog everyday. Years ago I was part of a girls bible study and we discussed finding joy everday. We all go through days that suck, but by the end of the day if you can see one thing that brought you joy it wasn’t a wasted day. We were encouraged to keep a joy journal and write in it anything and everything that brings us joy. I have continued to keep mine and I’ll be posting daily joy bolgs! I’m so excited to do this and hopefully they will be interesting enough to read so that you keep coming back to see what’s new.
