Finding Joy Everyday

because it’s possible

My Weekend May 27, 2008

I spent this past weekend in Edmonton Alberta at YC and had an amazing time. For those of you reading this that don’t know what it is you can check out the website. The weekend started on Friday night and went non-stop until Sunday night. I am still exhausted!

Here is a brief summary (thanks to Celine) of the weekend. She wrote her summary on Facebook and I am “stealing” it and changing it a bit. I hope she doesn’t mind…

Sitting on a bus with many others. Watching National Treasure and Mr. Bean episodes while covering my nose from that nasty stench. Putting on neon green bracelets that are our passes into the Rexall building. Passing through the doors while holding our arms up so they can see we payed for this experience and praying they don’t check my purse and take my water bottle away.

Kicking a band out of our awesome seats. Music so loud that it left my ears ringing for hours afterwards. Screaming, shouting, jumping, dancing for God. Losing my voice so that I just have to mouth the words because no sound comes out anymore, but then getting it back just to lose it again. John Bevere speaking about fearing God and how he will magnify our steps as we walk for Him. Singing to our heavenly father with 17,000 people in unison, truly worshiping without worrying about who is watching me.

Unloading the bus and setting up snack. 23 of us on a midnight search for a donair place to find it demolished. Laughing at the idea of walking through the Tim Hortons drive through and then shocked that they actually let us. Iced Capps at 1am. Playing Family Business until 2:30am. Cleaning the kitchen with Marc. Going to bed and waking up to find that I had a conversation with Emily while I was sleeping - weird.

Reggie Dabbs speaking, shouts of “Carpe Diem - Seize the Day” “We are all chocolate!”. Safeway for lunch, ditching Marc (I’m still sorry for that). Trying to get into Amanda Falk’s girl talk but going to a boring missions one instead. Finding Marc and worshiping with Vicky Beeching. Parachute Band! Hearing Omega’s story of God’s Mercy. Liz and Dayna’s turkey baster (KJ52 actually rapped about it!). Eating my second fruit tray. More of Reggie speaking. Moved me to tears. Being shocked at the number of kids who stood up for prayer because of suicidal thoughts. Worshiping God with tears rolling uncontrollably down my face. Getting back to the school for prayer and discussion. Being so proud of my little sister for declaring her conviction for her future. Watching boys play their stupid game. Getting attacked by my sister with a water bottle (I’m still hurting). Laughing so hard I couldn’t stop crying and people being concerned. Cleaning the kitchen with Marc…again. Sleep.

Cleaning and packing the bus. Being late for Sunday’s morning service. Leeland leading worship and the Aussie man making us sing to a DVD. Chicken fingers for lunch at the restaurant. Cute little Asian lady running around to get us our food. Parachute Band once again. Amazing worship. Papa San “shake your tambourine!” Finding Avery, praying that God spoke to her in a huge way! More Reggie, singing to his saxophone playing. Leaving during Newsboys. Getting home exhausted but staying up past 2 again!

Incredible worship. Praising God like how if might be like in heaven. Feeling the Holy Spirit in the room and being moved to tears and singing with a shaky voice. Screaming till it hurt. Feet sore but standing anyway. Realizing that I need to be still and focus on God’s voice speaking to me. Knowing that I should not hold anything back and that I need to focus on what God thinks and not to be concerned with those around me. He made me and thinks I am beautiful. I need to seize the day, every day. No day will be wasted.

Survivor Finale May 12, 2008

Last night was Survivor Fans Vs. Favourites Finale. I will admit that I am a total Survivor junkie and have loved this season of the show. Jeff Probst said yesterday that this season was more popular than the first season!

This season can be known for the most people leaving the show because of injury or giving up and for the most blind-sides during tribal council. I loved that the girls blind-sided all of the boys and how it all planned out. Two guys (Ozzy and Jason) both had the hidden immunity idol and when it came to tribal council they didn’t play it and were voted off. The top stupidity move though, was by a young man named Erik who gave up the immunity idol and was voted off. It was clear that the girls would all vote him off and when he gave up the only thing that would save him was shocking!

In the end Parvati won the million and seemed completely shocked. Many people were positive that Amanda would win, including myself, but it didn’t happen. James won $100,000 for being voted the most liked player.

I am so excited for season 17 to start. Yes, 17 Seasons of Survivor!!!! It is going to be in Gabon, Africa and you can guarantee that I will be watching it!

Yet Another Post April 30, 2008

I haven’t had the opportunity to post much on here because of our internet being on the fritz. I’m connected one moment and then it doesn’t work the next. Luckily a guy is coming tomorrow to fix that.

I did post something yesterday, but was quickly informed that I can’t post about that for a little while, so if you saw it and wonder where it went I’m sorry and it will come back!

I’ll be honest, I haven’t been in the best of moods lately. Simple little things seem to be getting me angry really quick. Things like a friend not giving me complete details about what they want to do, or people ignoring me when I’m trying to talk to them, or people cutting me off in traffic or the internet not working. I feel like my temper is on a short thread and I just don’t know why. This week was supposed to be a week where I could relax from the stresses of school, but I have found myself being stressed over cleaning and the life change that is occuring from me living back at home.

Tonight I went to the I Will Go concert with Starfield, Bethany Dillon, Shane & Shane and David Nasser. It was a great concert with a great speaker. I ended up in the “mosh-pit” for the Starfield concert and although I was stepped on and covered in other peoples sweat, I had a really good time. Tonight my time was definitely spent well and I’m looking forward to youth on Friday.

Celebrate April 24, 2008

To celebrate the fact that exams are finished I went out to a movie tonight with a group of people. There were 6 of us in total and we went to see Horton Hears A Who.

I must admit that I did want to see the movie, even if it looks a little bit cheesy.

Guess what? I loved it!!!

It is such a great movie. Now, I wouldn’t see it in the expensive theaters, but the cheap ones would be okay and it would be a good rental movie. It was so much better then I expected it to be. It’s about Horton, who is an elephant who hears a “who” on a speck of dust and ventures out to save their city from total destruction.

My favourite character has to be Katie. She was introduced to me months ago, but I didn’t feel it was right to talk about her until I saw the movie. Now that I have, I wish to share this clip with you. She is probably the most random character in the entire movie and this is the most she ever says.

They Sang What? April 23, 2008

I know that it is yet another late night for me, but I’m going to bed right after this I promise!!! For my mom, yes I did study today. The girls downstairs quizzed me with the cue cards I made and I will be waking up early to pack a lunch and go to school to do some last minute studying before my exam.

I just thought that I would write about this little show called American Idol. I haven’t been watching much of the show lately. It just annoys me when they take an entire show to tell the viewers who is voted off when it could take a couple minutes. I did watch this weeks performances on YouTube though. If you haven’t already heard Brooke White forgot the words and asked the band to start the song over. She thought that she would be gone today for sure, but the next contestant to leave was Carly Smithson. I actually like a lot of the contestants that are left on the show, and since I’m finished school (well almost) I just might be watching the next couple weeks of American Idol.

I leave you with a clip from an episode that I did not see. A few friends of mine mentioned that the contestants sang Shout To The Lord. They sang it for their AIDS show and then again the day after! I couldn’t believe that they would ever think of singing a Christian song on that show. They would never let that happen in Canada! Take a look at this clip to see the second night they sang the song.

Logging in to WordPress… April 4, 2008

Everyday that I log into WordPress and see that I have even one person looking at my blog that day or seeing that people have taken the time out of their day to write me a comment brings me so much joy.

There are so many different people that look at this thing too! People from church, my family and friends, and friends of my friends and relatives and random people that I don’t even know. There has even been a couple comments from people in Europe!

I just want to thank you all for coming to look at my blog and for leaving comments.

Just for fun, here is a video that was on Coffee Help’s website that I thought was cute. If you like James Blunt and Sesame Street, than you’ll enjoy this song.

America’s Next Top Model March 27, 2008

Another thing that brings me joy is America’s Next Top Model. I know that some absolutely hate the show and what it stands for, but there is just something about it that makes me want to watch it every week.

Every week the contestants complete a fashion challenge in which the winner(s) get prizes that models love like merchandise and photo shoots and trips to exotic places. They then have a photo shoot and the judges decide which girl they are going to let go.

The show is hosted by Tyra Banks and has celebrity judges like photographer Nigel Barker, runway coach J. Alexander and Czech supermodel Paulina Porizkova.

I love this show and make sure that I watch it every Wednesday night. If I miss it though, all of the episodes are loaded on YouTube.

Matt Costa March 18, 2008

It seems about time for another music video.

I have recently started listening to Matt Costa and I love his music!

He grew up in California and became dedicated to skateboarding. He even went pro, but in 2003 he shattered his knee in an accident. This turn of events made him switch his attention to music. He learned the guitar, started writing songs and began recording his home-made demo tapes. Tom Dumont (the guitarist for No Doubt) heard about Matt and started mentoring him. Matt wrote songs and Tom encouraged him and recorded them.

In 2005, Matt Costa toured with Jack Johnson as the opening act and his popularity took off from there. His most recent album is titled Unfamiliar Faces and was released in January of 2008. The following video is of his single from the album called “Mr. Pitiful”. Click here to check out his website.

My ipod March 12, 2008

I absolutely love music. I don’t think I can go a day without listening to music. I listen to it when I’m tired, bored, sad, happy, going to school, going home, in the car and in my room.

I bought my (PRODUCT)RED  ipod a couple years ago and have probably used it every day since then. I love it. I can download any song or podcast that I want on it and listen away. I bought the red ipod because I love the colour red and because some of the proceeds to my purchase went to the Global Fund which helps those with AIDS/HIV in Africa.

As many new ipods come out, I realize just how much I love my second generation ipod. Yes there are times where I wish my 4GB’s would hold more songs, but I really love my ipod. I love the colour, the size and the songs that are on it. Actually, now that I’m thinking about it, I might just have to go listen to it now.

Laughing Babies March 6, 2008

I love laughing babies. There is just something about their laugh that makes me laugh.

When I have kids of my own I want to make them laugh as much as possible . . .  so I’ll forget all the other stuff they do.

I found this video on YouTube, but these three laughing baby clips were featured on Americas Funniest Home Videos (or AFV).

Check it out and have a laugh. They’re so cute!
