Metamorphosis: a complete change in form, character or appearance.

It has been over a year since I have been in the blog world and much has changed. I have been transformed in many ways and as I look back, I can’t help but give complete credit to God.  His hand in my life has been evident in everything that I do.

I graduated University and was hired by a school almost immediately afterward. The community that I teach in is so supportive of me as a teacher and a person. I look back to when I started taking education classes and the uncertainty that I felt. I was so unsure about what I was doing, but continued with my classes because I felt that I had nothing better to do. I knew that I would finish my degrees and God would find a place for me to be. Thank you for being with me through my journey in school and bringing me to where I am today.

I have had the opportunity to go to Cancun and to Hawaii. I never would have thought that I would be able to travel to warm, tropical places with people that I love. My trip to Cancun was a graduation present to myself and I went with my very good friend. It was a time of relaxation and reconnection with God. I love being on a quiet beach, watching the waves and listening to God’s creation all around me. Hawaii was a trip this summer with my family. It was the first family vacation we have ever had that wasn’t camping or visiting family. We had a great time exploring the island and playing in the waves. We built some marvellous memories – it was a trip I will not forget.

As this year begins, I find myself looking back and seeing the great changes that have occurred in my life. I wonder what is going to come in the future. I am finding peace in my job. I am losing weight, eating better and am starting to actually like jogging. I am living in a duplex with my brother. I am buying a new car. I have a financial planner. I need to buy a new wardrobe and get rid of bags of clothes that don’t fit. I may get braces. I am excited for a new youth pastor. I am nervous for what is to come. I am anxious about the unknown. I am seeking the Lord and what He wants from me. I will stay calm and know that God is in control. He will bring me joy daily.

Romans 12:1-2        So here’s what I want you to do, God helping you: Take your everyday, ordinary life—your sleeping, eating, going-to-work, and walking-around life—and place it before God as an offering. Embracing what God does for you is the best thing you can do for him.   Don’t become so well-adjusted to your culture that you fit into it without even thinking.  Instead, fix your attention on God. You’ll be changed from the inside out.

I had spent the evening studying at the library and it was late as I walked up the long, dimly lit hill to locate my vehicle which was parked under dense, dark, tree cover. I heard you breathing behind me but I did not turn around. My mind started to play tricks on me and I became terrified of what you might do when you came closer. Your shadow was getting larger as you neared and I held my breathe as you passed.

I gazed up at your face at the moment you were beside me to find a lovely smile. I let out my breathe. You were one on the tallest men I have ever seen! I must admit that I have a thing for guys that are larger in stature. I think this is because I want a man that will make me feel small and safe and I’m a lot of woman to handle.

Anyway, you walked away and I went home. Then I saw you the next morning!  Coincidence?  I think not!

We had a full morning of playing Dora the explorer bingo, Dora the explorer checkers, doctor, restaurant, pirates, treasure hunt and Madagascar racing on the wii.

The conversations were priceless and here are two:

4yr old: You have a sparkle on your nose

Me: I sure do!

4yr old: does it go through your nose?

Me: yep.

4yr old: yuck. I don’t like it.

5yr old: You know what?

Me: what?

5yr old: I just noticed something. Your boobs are way bigger than my mommy’s.

4yr old: and way bigger than daddy’s!

It was so nice that you noticed I was new and introduced yourself to me. We laughed about what the different versions of your name and how you are trying to get people call you by different names depending on your age.

I found myself thinking about our potential future and yes, I stalked you on facebook. Only to find you have a girlfriend!  My dream bubble of our potential future popped. Too bad.

You were the class clown in all of my education classes last year.  Class was never boring as long as you came that day. You would mock Maggie and her sign language lessons and cause an uproar of laughter. The day where you and your buddies raced up and down the hallways in wheelchairs will be in my memory forever.

Now we are almost done and graduating together. It’s weird that we keep running into each other on our walks to and from school. You have always been super nice and I was surprised today when you asked me about going to church!  I guess you saw me at bible study last year. whoa

But the lip ring? It’s a huge metal ring on your bottom lip that you play with all the time. I grosses me out. Get rid of it and there might be a chance between us.

You are in my History of Rock and Roll class and I remember you from my History class 2 years ago.

You wear a ball cap everyday. This could be because of an insecurity of your possible receding hair line but I cannot tell because I’ve never seen you without a hat!   It’s okay if you don’t have any hair, you’re still a potential.  In class last week and this week we made eye contact several times. Next week you should sit closer.

Dude with the Purple Bag
I was driving down the road looking for a parking spot for the day and passed you. I got out of my car and as I was locking the door, I heard you singing to yourself out loud for the world to hear. Ok, maybe you weren’t singing, but you were trying really hard to rap along with your extremely loud music. You passed right by me with your “swaga” and purple side bag belting out the lyrics to some song. Thanks for making me smile. It was a nice way to start my school day.

and I love it!

At the beginning of the year I sent an email to the conservatory saying I was interested in finding out more information about voice lessons. Within a couple days I had been set up with an instructor and a practise room.

Like I said, it was a spur of the moment thing that I had inquired about lessons and now I was going to them. What had I gotten myself into?

I was so nervous to go to my first lesson but it turned out that my instructor is one of the nicest people I have met!  We talked about my interests and reasons for taking lessons. I told her that I didn’t really have any specific reason and we figured out that it was to gain confidence and improve my skills, and to work on piano!

So, I’m in piano and voice lessons. I am singing classical peices and contemporary jazz and rock songs. I’m also learning how to play the piano. My instructor gives me such praise when I sing, which makes me feel uncomfortable, but I’m getting used to the idea that I do have a voice and that I shouldn’t hide it. She wants me to sing in a recital at the end of the year, but I haven’t decided yet.

Well, today I was stood up.

Yep. Left alone and waiting as people watched.

I sat on an old chair in the long, dimly lit, music hallway waiting for her to come. The longer I waited, the more other music students appeared and sat around me. It was their time for lunch and I was sitting in one of their chairs, but I did not move. I waited. I eavesdropped.

I listened to the sounds of people practising piano and voice in the rooms that line the hallway and the laughs of the music majors.  Men and women were singing scales and practising for their upcoming recitals. They were talking about choir and audition pieces and I found myself asking “what if”.

What if I don’t stop school now. What if I go into a music program. What if I become a music teacher. What if I join a choir. What if I continue voice lessons. What if I learn guitar, ukelele and the piano…..What if.

I want to post something on my blog, but my thoughts are blank.

There have been so many days when I’m sitting in class or in my car and my thoughts go to my blog and the interesting and innovative topics that I could write about…..but as I sit here, all I can think of is that I want to type words on the screen to simply pass the time.

I have grad photos tomorrow morning and have no idea how I should do my hair. I got a hair cut yesterday, but the girl cut way less than I wanted off and my bangs don’t sit right on my face….. The plan is to go home after my 12 hours at school and spend some time curling, straightening, brushing, spraying, washing, blow-drying and styling my hair.
