Winnipeg Trip and “Elbow – One Day Like This

Standard

I ended up going to my cousin’s wedding in Winnipeg last weekend. I was upset that I couldn’t make it because I would have had to miss two exams and some very important classes. BUT I was informed that I had gotten the dates mixed up. I had thought the wedding was a week before the actual date. I checked my schedule and was able to re-schedule my one exam and I was free to go!

I left Lethbridge Wednesday night and the family (all 5 of us) took off for Manitoba early Thursday morning. We drove until Brandon and stayed in a hotel for night.

On Friday, we met the family at my oma’s (grandma’s) senior’s home for lunch. She lives in a good old Mennonite place where they served creamy mash potatoes and fried chicken with a lot of gravy. We stayed there for hours until my parents were ready to leave. On our way to my uncle’s house (where we were staying for our time in Winnipeg) we stopped in an old graveyard to walk around and take some sweet pictures! We then unpacked at my uncle’s place and ate and chatted late into the night.

Saturday was the wedding day. We spent the morning relaxing and getting all “fancied” up. The church was a gorgeous place with exposed beams with an A-frame ceiling. My cousin’s dress was so beautiful complete with a train and veil. The song that they walked down to was called “One Day Like This” by a group called Elbow. I loved it and it’s been playing on repeat in my room all week. It was a huge deal that we were there because out of my dad’s side of the family, we were the only cousins that were invited! Patti (my cousin getting married) said several times that it was so important that we were there for her. The food at the reception was fantastic and we had a pretty good time.

Sunday was a sleep in day (yes, we skipped church) and then met at my aunt’s house for lunch. Before we got there though, we had to stop at a store to pick up some yerba mate stuff for my opa in Calgary. It’s this loose leaf tea from South America that he drinks daily that is only sold in certian places. We spent almost an hour in that store getting an education about how to drink the tea and all of it’s medicinal purposes. In the end we bought a ton of stuff from the place and were really late for lunch. We had lunch and chatted with family and went back to the place we were staying for dinner with oma. BUT us kids were told to not eat with the “adults” because it might upset oma since she get confused easily and didn’t entirley know who we were. I can totally understand that, but it’s still hard to do. We got to say goodbye to her though.

Monday we packed up and left for Calgary. We spent the day in the van and arrived in Calgary around midnight. It was just enough time for me to unpack, repack, do homework, sleep a little and head back to Lethbridge Tuesday morning.

I still am catching up, but it was worth it to go to the wedding and support my cousin and to see all the family I haven’t seen in years.

Here is the video to Elbow’s song “One Day Like This”.

Happy Anniversary!

Standard

Today is my parents 24th wedding anniversary.

Their relationship is truly what I want when I get married. After all these years they love each other like the day they got married. I love to see them walk hand-in-hand in the park and snuggle on the couch while watching movies and laugh uncontrollably at the stupidest things. God has always been the center of their relationship and I know that is what holds them together. I love that they focus on Him through every situation and the way that they instilled that into the lives of their children.

I love you guys and hope you have a wonderful day and so many more God-Blessed years.
